Underwater

Photographs taken underwater OR photos of underwater subjects (in an aquarium, for instance). Water has to be the main medium between the lens and the subject. contest details

Underwater

The purpose of this contest is to gather photos of an often underrated (and sometimes misunderstood) category of photography. It will also serve to stimulate land photographers to explore a medium other than air. The submission period will allow people to post photos and go back to the sea (or swimming pool, river, lake, pond, tub) to try different techniques.

The camera setup is not important, from housed high-end digital to single-use disposable cameras, everything counts. And you don't need to scuba or even snorkel.

Try marine life, try portraits, try nudes, try landscapes (or seascapes), macro, micro, wide angle, natural light, artificial light, IR light.

Bottomline: experience underwater photography.

so if you don't need to snorkel or scuba can you just shot an aquarium of fish?

Why not? You can use land equipment but the main problem is not the equipment but the medium between the camera and the subject. Of course, shooting an aquarium has another problem: the walls. These can produce color aberrations and distortions and will make it more difficult to use flash or strobe lighting.

How about in a bath tub? :)

Why not? As long as you find a good subject :)
