Great one, Christel. Reminds me of a guard behind the fortress' wall. When doing macro shots people so often forget that same artistic and aesthetic merits should be applied to this field of photography too, that we have to be creative, not just technical. Greatly resolved bugs is not the main purpose of macro shots. We don't want to show the micro world internals, let's leave it to scientists, we want to show the micro world spirits rather the personality of its inhabitants. And I think you are trying to achieve this demanding goal in your macro photography.

Thanks Sergei - I confess it makes me happy when somebody understands and maybe even appreciates my intentions :) Since childhood I have had fantasies of being as small as an insect and being able to experience that fascinating microcosmos with all it´s drama and beauty. Macro photography has at least partly made the dream come true.
It is also part of my personal belief system that every life is equally valuable, be it human or insect. I always try to see the soul.
(ooops - got a little philosophical here :)

Christel, I am really enjoying your macro shots. This is a beautiful shot of an ugly insect. My son, Zac, who loves Science really enjoys your posts. It is a learning experience for him. I envy your talent.

Great composition ! Composition is not easy to do in such a small world. One of the benefits of this web site is the technical data poeple share. I love your shots but would also appreciate more tech data on them.

I like the leave and the bug's (thoughtful) tilted head.
Too bad that the quality of the Pro70 + Aubell macro doesn't look very good compared with a real macro equipment, even in the posted size.

Wow. That is a photo with a lot of impact. It's not tack sharp but everything else is so strong. It's so impressive it just has to be a "9". Great photo.

One wierd creature, but I like it. Macro shots are hard to do (for me anyway), but you do such a good job..

Sorry, you seem to have spoiled a great subject with insufficient DOF, lack of bottom crop. "Pretty Close" it is but not close enough IMO.
=3
