detailsI´ve been so frustrated over my recent failures in returning to film that I thought I´d cheer myself up by posting a nearly 15 year old shot from when I seemed to know how to get my exposures right :)
Contax MA137, Zeiss 80mm, don´t remember film or any details except handheld and natural light.
Christian, who was a friend and neighbour of my family, a farmer and fisherman, died a few years later. I have many fond memories of this man and of his wife Johanne who died early of cancer.

2 Andy Laycock (8/1/2000 11:33:00 AM)
Christel when I see something like this I wonder why you have chosen to photograph insects?????? This is so much better. Wonderful! PS it's hard to beat the Zeiss lenses.

This is top friggin' quality!!! Everyone who voted a 6 for this pic was apparantly looking at a different post than i was. Christel, i agree with Andy...take a break from the bugs and post more of these. -->9

"Eleanor Rigby" by the Beatles come up to my mind when I see portraits like this. This is a great image. 9

You probably guessed I would vote a 9 for this. Nice work. Better than Frames, the best of your recent work.

I wouldn't go as far as Barak's innocent slip, but I sometimes feel that you currently aren't producing up to your potential.

Well - some people say you´re only as good as your latest performance :) I consider my early photos very immature and conventional - I also consider myself as having moved on. Anybody may disagree, but trying to compare a portrait to an abstract image makes little sense and tells you nothing about my talent or lack of same - only that you have a preference for portraits. A human face always has a certain impact, but that´s due to the face and to the fact that we are human. Photographic skill is maybe 50% in such an image. I find it more challenging these days to work with subjects that demand 100% - so, I may not always be successful, but I have never tried to conceal the fact that I am still deep in the learning stages.
