Excellent, Mark, love this! I would like to see what it looks like in color also. Wish this thingwas not there but it's part of the fly and I would not get rid of it.

#1 Tim Pereira(T-Bear ): No, the poor thing wouldn't be able to fly without its halteres, Tim. They more or less guide the wing movements from beneath. Thanks.

Excellent shot, Mark. It looks cool in BW.
4 Bess   (6/7/2012 10:19:21 AM)
Excellent Mark. Great detail - love the B/W conversion.
5 Sreten   (6/7/2012 10:21:27 AM)
The details on this guy got great quality in b/w version as well. I like very much the clarity, toning and blurred b/g.

Amazing Mark, you are so talented, I'm jealous.
How do you see this stuff and present it so compellingly? World class. Pro level. Great capture. Great processing. Well seen.
9 B2O   (6/7/2012 11:49:04 AM)
Wonderful as said Mark. Great tones in B/W although I don't see the need in B/W for this kind of pictures. But your showing us what the master is capable of!. Gr. Bas

very nice and close! I see a slight problem with this leg. Perhaps it caused by post-processing

now that is good eye work Mark...show this to Tomabov

#7 Mark Polis: Many thanks Mark they are both beautiful.

#9 B2O: Actually, Bas, on the contrary - one should ask "what is the need for color?" regarding some photographs. If the color doesn't add appreciably to the image (and occasionally it can even distract or obfuscate detail by hindering the underscoring of luminous differences between hues), then why use it? See my example in color above - which do you prefer? By the way - I'm no master, just a hobbyist trying to improve. But thanks!
#10 Sasha Pezelj: That's diffraction of an object beyond the focal plane, Sasha, probably exaggerated by sharpening.
#11 joe bellantoni: Thanks, Joe. It's an eyeful!

#13 Mark Polis: Excuse me Mark, I did not see that example. I can find myself very much in your explanation. And for that example image in color: I do like the details on the color image more but the orange is very dominant. Now I can certainly understand why you have chosen the B/W conversion. May I say: You turned a very good amateur picture into a masterly one?
Thanks for your explanation, vision and pictures!
Gr. Bas.

20 wahid (wahid noureldin)   (6/7/2012 5:49:29 PM)
Outstanding macro quaity, Mark. For my taste the B&W is much better as the only concentration is on the fly without colours distraction.
21 Mark Polis   (6/7/2012 6:31:48 PM)
#20 wahid(wahid noureldin): Thanks, Wahid. I'm with you on that.

It's sharp enough Doc and I like the B&W tones. Good job. Might deserve POTD though I challenge folks to get off the birds, bugs and flowers and deliver something more creative. Not so much personal advice but a backhander to us all including "Moi" to push the limits around here.
