title Aztecs, The Jaguar
date10/16/2007 1:46:34 AM
detailsTaken at Panther Ridge Sanctuary in Wellington, Fl., with a Nikon D70, 80-200mm, ED 2.8D lens.

There are two Jaguars, Aztecs and Zeus. Zeus would not stop pacing but Aztecs sat down just long enought for my to get this pic. Out of all the cats we saw, these are the ones you do not get too close to the cage. Even the owner is not crazy about going in with these guys.

This the second post of this pic but I blurred the back ground out and left a bigger crop. All comments are welcome, thanks for looking and have a great Sunday!

:)

Great detail in the fur, thats a cracking lens. With th BG blurred he really stands out.
The power and strenght just leaps from the body.

#1 MadhuraK: Thanks, MadhuraK!!

#2 steve sharpe: Thanks, Steve, that lens barely comes off my camera, it is really good when the subject is close and there is a fence between you and "THIS" subject!!

#3 *rose*(Keep your ego focused.): Thanks, Rose, now go get some coffee...

#4 Tim Pereira(cooneysphotos.com): No coffee, but after my morning Diet Coke, I think...think...I see a very slight cyan or green tint on the whites. I could be looking too hard and my eyes are fooled. Anyway, here's my humble attempt at cleaning them up. I think the difference is very subtle, but most noticable in the ears. If anyone disagrees, please tell me?! I won't learn otherwise. ;)

14 aocole (Art Cole)   (10/16/2007 10:02:01 AM)
I like the comp better in this version and the BG blur acts as a nice fol to the rich textures you have captured in the fur. Nice detail, color saturation and lighting.

That detail on that fur, ... means a superlens, I think...!!! Maybe, bg looks bit 'handled' after all , a bit!!!
nevertheless, a cool shot!!!

Hi Cheryl, It printed beautiful!! But I did something very BAD!! After resizing the pic for PB, I SAVED THE PIC AND CLOSED PS!!!! All that work for a photo that is only 800x699 pixels. But is still printed great!!

Are you kidding, I have to!! When I told the wife what I did, I was cute me off for a week!! It was like the time my hard drive crashed and I losed 3 months of pictures, including all the pics she takes at the soccer games. I was cute off for a month after that....

Hi George, I worked really hard to get this one only to save it at 800x699(read #30 comment).

Next time I go to this place, I will try and get eye level with the cats. It was raining that day and the ground was soaked. I never got to close to the ground. I would love to lay on the ground and take pics of their face!!

Unbelievable, but I overlooked that photo yesterday...well, of course I've notice it....I had it many time in front of my eyes..but I "overlooked" it for commenting...For some reason, I was more than 100% sure that I already left my comment- this seemed so obvious to me;-)..but oh well, Iwas probably writing comments in my head, and then got absent-minded.....so, here I am today to tell you that I love clarity of this image..I do not know if this is thanks to your skills or to the lens;-)))..this is really good photo..I just tiny bit miss his forefeet..as they would go perfectly with the teeth;-)...Nevertheless, picky me would like to congratulate you on your POTD;-)..Warm hugs, Jolanta

#45 Jolanta ByliniaK-K.:

Hi Jolanta, please do not apologize. I can see your mind was on a dear friend yesterday...

You are right about the paws, next time I will try to get them. I do not know if people knew how hard it is to shoot they big guys. First, there is a fence in the way and they do not stand still. When poeple visit, they are pacing like crazy because they know they are going to get attention and they love that!

We really had a great time here. I printed a pic for all the kids in both class and they loved it!!

Take care, Jolanta and have a great day!!

#45 Jolanta ByliniaK-K.:

You guys also comment on the lens I used. Both are right, the Nikon 80-200mm 2.8 lens is a great lens, I barely take it off my camera. The only draw back with this lens is, I have to be very close to my subject for the detail to come out. And with me being color blind, this lens helps BIG time!!

Besides bluring the back ground out, all I did in PS was auto color, added contrast and sharpened, that's it. So I would have to say, yes, it is the lens and taking the pic in RAW.

Thanks to both of you for stopping by, it really mean alot to me from you two!!
